DahlBury purchases Scottish Grand National winner Win My Wings to visit Planteur in 2023

DahlBury, the brand launched in 2022 and founded by Simon and Rhian Davies, recently purchased the Scottish Grand National winner Win My Wings.

Simon Davies said: “We are delighted to have acquired Win My Wings to join our exciting growing broodmare band and she will visit Planteur in 2023. As the highest rated female chaser in GB and Ireland, and an exceptional athlete, she is everything we look for in the bloodstock we invest in. We aim to focus on quality, particularly the tough, sound and consistent strengths of the thoroughbred.

“We are very happy to secure her from Sue Howell, and Christian did such a magnificent job with her. With so many fantastic achievements, Win My Wings has obviously become very dear to Sue and we are privileged that she has accepted our offer to take her forward in her next chapter. She will also be able to visit her regularly as we are only a few miles down the road.”

Trained by Christian Williams for owner Sue Howell, the nine-year-old mare won seven races over hurdles and jumps, amassing £180,000 in prize money, and reached an official rating over fences of 154. She bolted up in the Coral Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase winning by an impressive seven lengths, described by Timeform as “…a pattern-class performance in a handicap.” It was her third Chase victory on the trot which included the Eider Chase, having also won a 2m2f hurdle race in France. In total, she has won or been placed 13 times from 22 races.

Her trainer, Christian Williams, said: “Win My Wings will always have a special place in my heart. She’s been an amazing friend to everyone and a real flag bearer for our young burgeoning stable. She provided me with one of my career highlights when she ran away with the Scottish National. She’s been a joy to train, a very straight forward mare with a lovely attitude. She loved her work and her jumping and I have to thank all the staff particularly my brother Nicky who did a lot of work with her over the years.

“I look forward to following Win My Wings in the next chapter of life. I think she will let down into a wonderful broodmare, and if she instills her will to win, her ability and brilliant temperament into her progeny then they will surely be highly sought after.”

Win My Wings is just one of several high-profile National Hunt mares purchased by DahlBury in 2022, others include Put The Kettle On, Miss Heritage, Royale Margaux, Quilita (the dam of Quilixios) and Aspidistra (the dam of Adagio). DahlBury is a brand passionate about the Great British Thoroughbred and honouring its legacy for the future.

Significant investment has also been made in stallions headed up by Planteur, the sire of Group One and Grade Two winners on the flat, over hurdles and jumps. In addition to Bangkok, an extremely well-bred and tremendously tough racehorse, and Walzertakt, whose first winners are looking like very exciting prospects. All the stallions stand at Chapel Stud and their stud fees remain the same in 2023 - £4,000 for Planteur, £3,000 for Bangkok, and £2,500 for Walzertakt with a generous Pick A Nom incentive scheme also offered.
