Gran Diose lands Gr.2 Chase on 2025 debut for Planteur

The tough and consistent son of Planteur, Gran Diose, came home strongly to win the Grade 2 Grand Steeple-Chase Masters - Prix Ingré at Auteuil on his 2025 debut, for trainer Louisa Carberry and owner/breeders Luc Monnet and Frederic Hinderze.

It was the perfect race to prepare him for another chance at winning the Grade 1 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris next where he is hot favourite to win for a second time.

After a perfectly controlled race in the middle of the pack, Gran Diose sailed over the fences without a hint of hesitation. As soon as he cleared the last hurdle, he unleashed an irresistible acceleration, charging straight towards a brilliant victory.

Trainer Louisa Carberry said: "We are three weeks away from the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, and we couldn’t afford to present him only half ready. The result didn’t matter to me: I wanted him to jump well, finish the race properly, and for his jockey to have good feelings. I don't think the race took too much out of him. He jumped carefully, breathed well around the final turn, and once he found daylight, he accelerated. It was the perfect prep race. Now he just needs to recover well and for the next three weeks to go smoothly! Congratulations to Thomas Beaurain and, above all, to Gran Diose!"

Gran Diose has now won seven Stakes races including the Gr.1 Prix La Haye Jousselin and Gr.1 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris in 2024, and won or been placed in an impressive 13 Stakes races over jumps and amassed nearly £1.3m in prize money. His other races include a Grade 2 double with victories in the Gr.2 Prix Georges Courtois and Gr.2 Grand Steeple-Chase de Compiegne, plus success in the Gr.3 Prix Romati Chase and the Listed Prix Solitaire Chase all at Compiegne.

He is a half-brother to the Gr.3-winning chaser Canichette (Prince Gibraltar) and out of a half-sister to the Listed-placed hurdler Arenui (Masterstroke). The second dam is the Listed Prix d’Iena Hurdle third Vavea (Saint Des Saints), and the family extends to the Italian Listed Flat winner Crissomou (Crystal Palace).

Gran Diose is Planteur’s best runner over jumps and hopefully one of many more to come. Over hurdles Planteur has also sired Gr.2 Premio Criterium di Primavera Hurdle winner Edidindo, and on the Flat the outstanding Champion Stayer and triple Gr.1 winner Trueshan.
