Planteur's son Trueshan battles to impressive Gr.2 victory

Planteur’s dual Gr.1 winning son, Trueshan, was back to his best with an extraordinary success in the Gr.2 Doncaster Cup Stakes at Doncaster today.

Trueshan had been off since May and had looked to have pulled his chance away before Hollie Doyle let him lead over 4f out and in the end he won by one and a quarter lengths for trainer Alan King and The Singula Partnership.

He was adding to his impressive Stakes winning tally, now being two Gr.1 races, four Gr.2 races and two Listed races. Indeed, he has run in 14 Stakes races and won or been placed in 12 of them.

Jockey Hollie Doyle said: “Trueshan is just superior, he's back to his best. To do it that way round was a pretty extraordinary performance. He can settle beautifully if he can use himself. But we were going a pedestrian pace and when you're breaking a big horse's stride like that it's never going to end well. So I just let him bowl along and it was a make or break moment really.”

Last year Trueshan became the first horse to win three races on British Champions Day after another brave victory in the Gr.2 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot. He was also the 2021 Champion Stayer and has won the Gr.1 Prix du Cadran and Gr.1 Goodwood Cup. In total, Trueshan has won 14 of his 24 starts and amassed over £1.6m in prize money.

Bred by Didier Blot, Trueshan is a half-brother to four winners in France, out of a winning daughter of General Holme, and is one of the best performers under the first three dams on his page. Also in the family is Australian stayer True Marvel (Masked Marvel), runner-up in the Gr.1 Sydney Cup and third in the Gr.2 Brisbane Cup.

His sire Planteur has enjoyed great support from breeders in his first three seasons at Chapel Stud for DahlBury following his relocation from France.
